Jobs

Everything Kitly does for you runs as a job: generations, mocap capture, frame extraction, video re-encodes, backups. Jobs run in the background, several at once, and you keep working while they do. Close the window and they keep going in the tray.

The Jobs panel

The bottom panel has two tabs, Files and Jobs. Open Jobs to see every job with its title, id, start time, a status badge or live phase text, a progress bar, and a cancel button (the X).

Jobs split into two columns: Pipelines on the left for multi-step work like a Redub import or a backup, Single Ops on the right for one-shot calls to a single provider. This keeps a screenful of image generations from burying the one import you're actually waiting on.

Filter chips along the top (Active, Complete, Failed, Cancelled) narrow both columns at once. Complete is off by default, so finished jobs clear out of the way on their own; toggle it back on when you want to see them. Your choice is remembered across restarts. Each column also has its own Clear button, which dismisses every finished job in that column without touching the ones still running.

When a job finishes, click its row to jump straight to the output in the viewer. If batches are running, a "N batches running" link next to the tabs takes you to them.

There's also a Run a test job button, useful for confirming that jobs and providers are wired up before you spend time on a real generation.

Statuses

A job moves through statuses as it runs. Cloud generations typically pass through several of these; local jobs use fewer.

Status Meaning
queued Waiting its turn
running Working
uploading Sending your source files to the provider
submitted The provider has accepted the request
polling Waiting for the provider to finish
downloading Fetching the result
validating Checking the result before registering it
complete Done, output registered
failed Something went wrong; the row shows the error
cancelled You stopped it

Long-running local jobs show a live phase instead of a bare status, like "Detecting 62%" during mocap, with the progress bar tracking it.

Cancelling

Click the X on a job row to cancel it. Running generations in the Pipelines panel also show inline with their own cancel X. Cancelling never touches assets that already finished.

The status bar

The strip along the bottom of the window keeps you oriented without opening the panel:

  • Left: a Ready or Working dot, the scene name, and the app version.
  • Right: an update chip when relevant ("Update available", a download percentage, or "Restart to update"), and a running-jobs chip showing how many jobs are active and the current phase. Click it to jump to the Jobs panel.

Jobs outlive the window, not the app

Hiding the window (closing it) leaves jobs running. Quitting Kitly from the tray or the burger menu ends them. The update dialog warns you if you try to restart for an update while jobs are still running.
