Asset Mode
Asset Mode is where you build and curate Kitly Assets: named containers with variation pools and Takes. If those words are new, read Kitly Assets and Takes first; this page is the hands-on guide.
The library
The mode opens on the library: a "Kitly Assets" header with Grid and Table tabs, a category filter (Environment, Object, Character, Texture, Material, Image, Video, Sound, Music), search, a size slider, and a tags filter strip. Cards show the cover image, name, a category pill, and per-modality counts so you can see at a glance which containers have images, models, or audio in them.
Create one
- Click New Kitly Asset.
- Give it a Name (the modal suggests the style: "Goblin Warrior"), a Category, an optional Description, and Tags.
- Confirm, and the detail view opens.
You can also create one from Sandbox: right-click any asset card and choose Create Kitly Asset....
The detail view
The header holds a back arrow, the editable name, and the Take controls: a Take switcher (the base Take carries a star), New Take (duplicates the current Take), and Take actions (Set as Base, Rename..., Clear Channels, Export Take...). A channel strip and select show what the current Take has filled. Alongside those: Reveal in Explorer, Edit Properties, and Delete Kitly Asset.
Deleting the container is safe
The delete confirmation says it plainly: "This does not delete any generated files, only the Kitly Asset container."
Below the header, modality tabs (Text, Image, Audio, 3D, Video) show variation counts, with a brass dot on tabs where the current Take has channels assigned.
The ChannelPanel
Each modality tab opens a three-part panel.
Generate column. An operations tree scoped to this modality, a preset picker, References slots, a prompt box ("Describe what this channel should generate..."), and the parameter form. Parameters save automatically as you change them, so the setup is always current. Click Generate and the result lands in this modality's variation pool. It works exactly like the Sandbox Pipelines panel, except everything is remembered per Kitly Asset.
Preview. The full viewer with its complete toolbar, same as Sandbox. Right-click the preview for Set as rows (assigning it to a channel slot of the current Take), Reveal in Explorer, Open With, and Discuss in Chat.
Properties. Category, Description, Tags, and Folder for the container; a "Channels" list for the current Take with View and remove controls; "Other Modalities" jump buttons; an "Operations" list for the previewed asset; and a "Selected Variation" section with its rating, favorite, status, comments, and prompt snapshot.
Working the variation pool
The gallery header reads "Variations (N)", with an add-existing button (opens the ReferencePicker so you can pull in assets generated elsewhere) and a size slider.
Each card shows a thumbnail, a heart, stars, and a comment count. Busy variations show a spinner with a cancel button; failed ones show the error with Retry and Delete. Ctrl or Shift click to multi-select and delete in bulk. Ctrl+V pastes clipboard content straight into the pool.
Right-click a variation for: Set as rows for the current Take's channel slots, New channel..., Create Take from Variation, Discuss in Chat, and Delete Variation.
Double-click a variation to open its detail drawer: a large preview, rating and favorite, the Prompt, a "Generated From" section, Use As Reference buttons (one per modality, feeding it into that channel's reference slots), its channel assignments, and the comments thread.
A curation rhythm that works
- Generate a sweep of variations.
- Heart the keepers, star-rate the maybes, comment on what to fix.
- Right-click the winner, use Set as to fill the Take slot.
- Repeat per modality until the Take is complete.
Takes in practice
The current Take is whatever the switcher shows. New Take duplicates it, so an alternate costume or palette starts from your existing picks. Set as Base promotes a Take to be the starred default. Clear Channels empties the current Take's slots without touching any variations.
Create Take from Variation (on a variation's right-click menu) spins up a Take built around that pick in one step.
Feeding Asset Mode from Sandbox
You don't have to generate inside Asset Mode. From Sandbox, right-click any asset and choose Create Kitly Asset... or Set as Channel.... The dialog has "Existing Kitly Asset" and "New Kitly Asset" tabs, a Take select, and a channel select for the asset's modality. Depth, mask, and splat siblings assign themselves automatically alongside the main file. Multi-select several assets and Add to Kitly Asset... adds them to the variation pool in bulk.
Export a Take
- Open the Take you want to ship and choose Export Take....
- Pick Copy to Directory or Zip Archive.
- Optionally tick "Include the full variation pool and asset metadata".
- Export.
Files come out with canonical names built from the asset and slot, like GoblinWarrior_Diffuse.png, plus a take.json manifest describing the bundle. That's the package you hand to an engine importer, a teammate, or a client. Manifest details in File formats.
